Parental Involvement

Manchester Cooperative Preschool is a cooperative parent education program located in Manchester, Michigan. Our goal is to supply you with relevant and useful parenting information, while at the same time providing a nurturing environment for your child to grow and learn.

  • One parent per family is required to work 1-2 days each month during the child's class time depending on the size of the class. During this time the person is asked to bring in a healthy snack for the whole classroom.

  • One parent must attend the general membership meeting held 3 times per year. (Both parents are encouraged to attend.)

  • Co-op members must participate in all fundraisers throughout the school year. The preschool is a nonprofit organization and holds fundraisers each year. Proceeds raised cover toy replacement, new toy purchases, site improvements, and other miscellaneous expenditures.

  • Each member must serve on one committee. The average time spent on committee work is 2-4 hours each month.

  • All volunteers are asked to respect a privacy code inside and outside of school hours.  It is the role of the teacher to communicate student behavior and other events to the families of the student(s) involved.

Suggestions for Parent Helpers

In our continued effort to provide the best educational environment for the children, we are providing

the following suggestions for helping parents:

  • Arrival - Please arrive on time to help set up for snack time.  During this time please follow teacher directions and help them with tasks needed for that day.

  • Snack time – During snack, please assist those who need additional portions or help with juice boxes and other items.

    • This is a great time to remind children that they need to try first before asking for help. Hooray for independence! Capri Sun juice pouches, for example, are tricky but children can master opening them with practice.  Our motto is to try first, ask a friend next, then an adult.

    • Remember that this is snack time and multiple servings are not necessary.

    • Children must clean up after themselves!

  • Recess/Gym – monitoring students’ safety, encourage play, and don't be afraid to join the fun!

  • What do you do before you leave? – Before leaving for the day there is a checklist of tasks to complete in the classroom. This includes: vacuuming, sanitizing the tables, toys, and dishes, emptying all trashes, etc.

Thank you so much for EVERYTHING you do!  Your participation in your child’s education and the

successful running of the Co-op is GREATLY appreciated!
